I was sad to hear that 42's Fremont campus is closed, ending 42's presence in the United States and North America. I am convinced that there is an enormous need for accessible, skills-based education in the US and that American needs to multiply its tech talent pool - something it is struggling to do.

It saddens me deeply to hear that the 42 Fremont campus has closed. I opened the campus with Gaetan in 2016, and I still remember the first day of the first piscine. The early days were certainly an adventure and it was a pleasure to see the campus grow.

Every year, there are thousands of people who spend a lot of time and effort trying to get a software engineering job in North America. Companies such as Apple, Tesla, eBay, Google, or Amazon received thousands of applications for these positions, but only very few are chosen. Tier 1 tech companies are known for (and often inappropriately boast about) their <1% acceptance rates.

Kazakhstan is a beautiful country, bordering Russia, China, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, and the Caspian Sea. While it may not be Silicon Valley, it has arguably out-teched California and succeeded in launching an innovative digital university during the coronavirus lockdown that has been wildly successful.

With the significant unemployment levels in America and the sudden boost to digital transformation with the coronavirus lockdowns, there's a surge in a need to upskill or reskill the workforce.
